The Bionic Paintings are unique, hand crafted structures made out of recycled iron. They contain soil, plants and miscellaneous groupings of painting and/or photographies that can be moved and adjusted at will through the magnets attached to them. Unlike common Green Walls, they don’t need electricity to function or an electrical ventilation system. Ventilation happens naturally through the mesh netting within the structure and neodymium magnets placed around the painting structure.
Inspired by the Babylonian Hanging Gardens and Zen Philosophy Bionic paintings could bring true sustainable art to individual homes and urban spaces. They could also be used to promote a sense of community amongst the inhabitants of large cities, by involving people in the final design of the Paintings and encouraging them to reflect about an array of important issues. Such as the role of individual people in making headway towards sustainable living, the function that a work of living art, like a Bionic Painting, can have in increasing people’s quality of life and stimulating them intellectually by allowing them to alter and adjust an artwork. Ideally, Bionic Paintings would belong to everyone, they could become an example of interactive art in open spaces, contributing also to oxygenating cities; live compositions that enclose unique ecosystems with small modular paintings.
The Bionic Painting is a live and developing artwork, transformed by the changing seasons and the growth of the plants in it. It is a step towards achieving an equilibrium between the human condition and nature’s temperament. It is a link between human and natural expression, where the static condition of artistic expressions such as painting and photography are truly brought to life through the allure of the natural world.
